#Bayanihan #ProtectOurGarbageCollectors

Posted: April 16, 2020

As Pollution Control / Environmental Officer of our respective organization we endeavored so much of implementing and complying Environmental Laws mandated by the government. In reality it is not only compliance but we function to improve the performance of our company in terms of quality and profitability. At the same time, we have also our twin corporation social responsibility to our stakeholders and community we belong.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the whole world is affected putting humanity in critical and vulnerable to its effect. A lot of non-government organizations are helping the government to protect people from the adverse condition and preventing the spread of the disease. Among of those preventive measures are the use of mask, alcohol disinfection, home quarantine and prevention of social gathering. Our organization, the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Incorporated Region VII (PCAPI-7) and PCAP-7 Foundation in coordination with the DENR-Environmental Management Bureau Region VII (DENR-EMB7) and Local Government Unit came up with an idea of #Bayanihan #Protect Our Garbage Collectors by providing them standard PPE a respirator (single/double cartridge) because they are much vulnerable of the virus being considered as front liners facing great risks and possible exposure to COVID-19.

Amid all of the combat situation against COVID-19 and pursuant to Republic Act No. 11469, otherwise known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and the Environmental Management Bureau’s continuous pursuit to protect all garbage collectors in the middle of this global crisis, we the PCAPI-7 and in partnership with DENR-EMB7 thru the leadership of Director Lormelyn E. Claudio, donated PPEs amounting to P76,500 for the garbage collectors of the City of Lapu-lapu on April 16, 2020.

The said PPEs, consisting of single-cartridged respirators and nitrile safety gloves, will be of great help for our garbage collectors who will never stop in maintaining the city’s cleanliness while undergoing enhanced community quarantine.

EMB-7 and PCAPI-7 believe that our garbage collectors play a vital role in making our places conducive to a healing process. They need protection from us as we also need protection from them through maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings.  We are grateful that we can share our initiatives so other organizations can also recognize the efforts and sacrifices of our garbage collectors who we also consider as unsung heroes.
